Vizoovet provides an immediate lubrication and comfort, ocular surface protection and pain relief and recovery of the eye's normal Ocular surface disorder encompasses different types of diseases which are based on a damage of the surface of the cornea which include dry eye syndrome or typical symptoms after ocular surgery and corneal erosions.
Ocular surface disorder can severely affect eyesight and quality of life. Symptoms may include blurry vision, discomfort or pain, redness and itching, and in severe cases, blindness due to corneal scarring.
The tear film plays a key role in the physiological repairing process. It is composed of 3 different layers (the aqueous, lipid and mucin layer). All three layers must function properly to ensure adequate production of tears in order to avoid symptoms of ocular surface disorder.
Irritation can occur when not enough tears is produced to keep the eye comfortably lubricated or when the eye does not produce an adequate amount of lipids to smooth the tear surface.
The alteration of the lipid layer produces evaporation of the aqueous layer leading to reduced nourishing factors which alter the epithelial cell activity and replication as well as to hyperosmolarity causing death of goblet cells and reduction in corneal glycogen. Irregular lipid layer causes optical aberrations clinically resulting in a reduction of visual acuity and, in general, of the quality of vision. Reduced lubricant power can lead to irritation, heavy/swollen eyelids and foreign body sensation.osmolarity.
Therefore in the treatment of ocular surface disorder, the therapeutical goal should consist of supporting repairing processes and achieving relief of symptoms.
Dry eye in cats, also known as keratoconjunctivitis or KCS, is not an uncommon condition in cats and usually occurs as a result of chronic feline herpesvirus illnesses. Dry Eye occurs when the proper amount of tears are not produced by the glands above the eye in the cat's third eyelid. As a result, the cornea of the eye becomes dry, inflamed, and irritated.
KCS is usually defined by the tear glands’ inability to produce water in the tears. Due to the fact that tears are a combination of mostly water with an addition of oil and mucus, if left untreated KCS will result in eyes which have a thick oily mucus layer over the eyes. In most cases, both eyes are affected.
With time, the cornea can become scratched and scarred, and blindness will eventually occur. Dry eye is also a notoriously painful condition, and cats with this illness may also suffer from depression and irritability as a result of their pain.
